I’m the face behind the Liberated Writer name, and I’ve spent the last decade as a full-time fiction author, an independent publisher, and a coach for other authors through my business FFS Media.
The Liberated Writer developed organically as my industry experience intersected with my passion and curiosity about the Enneagram framework of personality.
Now an Advanced Certified Instructor of the Enneagram Spectrum of Personality Styles and an Accredited Practitioner of the Integrative Enneagram (iEQ9), I help authors identify the hidden fears holding them back in their writing and marketing by offering expert guidance in confronting the fears in small but profound ways.
In an unpredictable industry (and world, am I right?), knowing what motivates you and how to harness that is an essential understanding to stay grounded and on the path of your choosing.
I’ve helped hundreds of authors, from those new to the industry to those with seven-figure success, overcome the subconscious fears keeping them trapped so that they can see the present clearly and build toward the a future that will inspire their writing and their readers for decades to come.
If you’re ready to reclaim your author career through individualized and evidence-based techniques and practices, let’s work together!
Hi, I’m Claire Taylor.
What Liberated Writers have to say…
What is the Enneagram?
Everything offered through the Liberated Writer is built on a foundational framework called the Enneagram. You might’ve heard of it before, but you may not yet see how useful, dynamic, and individualized it can be. (Don’t worry, that’s where I come in as a certified coach.)
The Enneagram is a personality framework that is unlike any other because of what it measures. It sorts people into nine distinct types, sometimes called “styles” or “lenses.” The criteria for sorting is simple: a person’s core fear and core desire.
Fear and desire are the basis of the thing we call “motivation.” The word “motivation” is derived from the same root as the word “move.” Motivation moves us. What we fear and desire most determines where our attention naturally flows and subsequently what we do, think, and feel about ourselves and the world around us.
You might see how this is incredibly useful to know as a writer, particularly if you write fiction. How do you get your characters from one place to the next? What is the precise motivation to move them where you want them to go?
This doesn’t only apply to physically moving a character from one setting to the next. When we talk about motivation, we’re also talking about moving someone emotionally and intellectually. Creating a cohesive internal character arc. Very useful.
In Enneagram-speak, the results of motivation are often referred to as “cognitive, emotional, and behavioral” patterns or “schema.”
The Enneagram describes how we are motivated in three ways: thinking, feeling, and doing.
So, yes, this is also a useful framework to apply to our own lives and our creative projects. What motivates someone else may not motivate you, and I can tell you why.
Designing an author career (or hobby) aligned to what motivates you is the best way to ensure you’re building something sustainable. Understanding what works for you and WHY is a crucial skill that helps you adjust to the major shifts within publishing that will continue whether we like it or not.
Gaining clarity on what does and doesn’t motivate us into creative action, frees us to rebuild and reinvent ourselves over and over again. Once we learn that the rules we were holding onto aren’t really rules at all, we learn to release what doesn’t work, keep what does, and enjoy being liberated writers.
